Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 31, 2026
Draft notice:this policy was generated by auditing MainQuest's actual codebase — every data type, permission, and third party named below reflects what the app really does today, not generic boilerplate. It is a strong starting draft, not legal advice. Have it reviewed by a lawyer in your operating jurisdiction(s) before relying on it publicly, and fill in the bracketed legal-entity details once MainQuest is formally incorporated.

MainQuest ("MainQuest," "we," "us," or "our") provides a personal productivity and reflection app — habit tracking, a diary, calendar, mail, and an AI assistant named Alfred — available at betterme.center (web) and as an iOS app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

By creating an account or using MainQuest, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. Information we collect

Account information

Email address, password (hashed by our authentication provider — we never see or store it in plain text), and first/last name. On the web app, you may instead sign in with Google or Apple, in which case we receive the name and email address that provider shares with us.

Content you create

Diary entries and their category/mood tags, habit names and daily completion history, calendar events, to-do items, and the messages you send to Alfred. This is the core of the service — we store it so you can access it across sessions and devices.

Health and sleep data (iOS only, optional)

If you turn on sleep coaching, MainQuest reads sleep-stage data from Apple Health (HealthKit) to determine your actual wake time and adjust your coaching goal. We request read-only access to sleep data specifically — no other Health category. See Section 4 for how this data is used and its limits.

Voice recordings (web only, optional)

If you use voice dictation for a diary entry, your microphone audio is sent directly to our transcription provider to be converted to text and is not retained by MainQuest afterward — we log only the number of seconds transcribed, to enforce plan quotas.

Fitness and activity data (optional)

If you connect Strava, we read your workout activities to automatically mark matching habits (e.g. a "Gym" habit) as done. If you connect Google Health, we read the metrics you authorize (such as steps, calories, active minutes, or heart rate) for the same purpose. Both are entirely optional and can be disconnected at any time.

Device and usage data

A device identifier (used to enforce the Free plan's single-device limit and to manage voice-diary access on one device at a time), IP address, and usage counters such as your daily Alfred message count, needed to enforce your plan's limits.

Payment information

Subscription payments are handled entirely by Stripe (web) or Apple (iOS In-App Purchase). MainQuest never receives or stores your card number — only your subscription plan, status, and a customer reference ID used to look up your billing relationship with the payment processor.

2. Alfred, AI processing, and what that means for your data

Alfred is powered by Anthropic's Claude API. When you message Alfred, we send it the context needed to give you a relevant answer — for example, your upcoming calendar events, habit history, recent diary entries, and (for paid plans with memory enabled) an encrypted summary of people or topics Alfred has learned you care about, decrypted only for that request.

Anthropic processes this data solely to generate Alfred's response to you. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, data submitted through the API is not used to train their models. Alfred's memory of recurring people/topics is encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM) in our database and is only ever decrypted transiently to build a request on your behalf.

If you use voice dictation, your audio is separately sent to our transcription provider (not Anthropic) purely to produce text.

3. Third parties we share data with

We rely on the following service providers ("sub-processors") to run MainQuest. Each receives only what it needs to perform its function:

ProviderWhat it does for usWhat it receives
SupabaseDatabase, authentication, backend infrastructureAll account and content data (this is where it's stored)
AnthropicPowers AlfredCalendar/habit/diary context and your message, per conversation turn
GroqVoice-to-text transcriptionRaw audio for the duration of transcription only
StripeWeb subscription billingEmail, subscription/plan status — never card details, which Stripe collects directly
Apple (StoreKit)iOS subscription billingPurchase/subscription status, via Apple's standard IAP mechanism
GoogleOptional sign-in; optional Google Health data linkingBasic profile info (sign-in) and/or authorized health metrics (if connected)
StravaOptional activity linkingWorkout activity data, if connected
ResendSends support/transactional emailsYour email address and message, when you contact support
VercelHosts the web app and APIStandard web server logs

We do not use advertising networks, analytics/tracking SDKs, or data brokers. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

4. Health & sleep data — HealthKit specifics

Sleep data read from Apple Health is used onlyto power the sleep-coaching feature inside MainQuest — computing your actual wake time and adjusting your coaching goal. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with any third party beyond what's described in this policy, in line with Apple's HealthKit guidelines. You can revoke MainQuest's Health access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → MainQuest.

5. Your choices & rights

  • Access, edit, or export your diary, habits, and calendar content directly within the app.
  • Disconnect Google Health or Strava at any time from Settings.
  • Revoke HealthKit access at any time via iOS Settings.
  • Delete your account and all associated content at any time from Settings, in the app — this is permanent and cannot be undone.
  • If you're in the EU, UK, or Switzerland, you have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) to access, rectify, delete, restrict, or port your data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

6. Data retention & deletion

We keep your content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal content within 30 days, except where a record must be kept longer to comply with the law (for example, payment records required for tax/accounting purposes, which our payment processors retain independently under their own policies).

7. Security

  • All data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS).
  • Alfred's "memory" content is encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM), with a key derived per user.
  • No advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs are used anywhere in MainQuest.

8. Children's privacy

MainQuest is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 16 (or under 13 in the United States). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. International data transfers

Our service providers may process and store data outside your country of residence, including in the United States and the European Union. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as MainQuest evolves. We'll update the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll make reasonable efforts to notify you in-app or by email.
